A Tribute to Steeve Kay

Steeve Kay is a global thinker and an enterprise technologist. His life is focused, guided by a sense of destiny. His life’s ultimate contribution has already touched multitudes, including the students of Rockbridge Seminary and their ministries. His legacy will be lasting.
This Capstone Course, “Practicing the Focused Life,” is about achieving focused living beyond seminary that fulfills destiny, finds ultimate contribution, and leaves a lasting legacy. Because Steeve Kay’s life is a model for what this course teaches, Rockbridge Seminary hereby dedicates this course in his honor and with deep appreciation for his role in the seminary’s launch in 2004.
Ideas around the dining room table
Big dreams need thoughtful, objective, and engaging minds that serve as sounding boards for new and innovative ideas. Steeve Kay was my sounding board. As a decade-long journey of research and thought about the future of seminary education began to birth ideas and form vision, Steeve Kay was a regular visitor in my Southern California home, conveniently located right off the 57 Freeway on the way to his office. Around the dining room table, we discussed, debated, dreamed, and prayed. Those sessions helped move a big dream to the first stages of reality.
Kingdom venture capital
When Rockbridge Seminary offered the inaugural course in 2004, we had no money, no equipment, no faculty, and only one course. What we did have was a small group of individuals who believed in what we were doing and had the financial means to help the fledgling seminary launch. Steeve Kay was one of those individuals. His gifts to Rockbridge Seminary reflect stewardship, generosity, and vision.

As a member of Rockbridge Seminary’s Board of Trustees, Steeve Kay has added immeasurable value to the seminary’s executive team through his engineering mind, entrepreneurial experience, and interest in technological innovation.
Meet Steeve Kay
Steeve Kay co-founded QTC Management in 1981 and, as its President and CEO, developed the company to become the leading provider of web-based medical disability evaluation services to America’s $400 billion-a-year disability benefit industry. In 2005, QTC was sold in a leveraged buyout.
Prior to QTC, Mr. Kay spent 15 years in the high tech industry working for four semi-conductor companies (Avantex, Siliconics, Fairchild Semi-Conductors and Hughes Aircraft Co.) in California’s Silicon Valley, the birthplace of the information revolution. He was credited with the successful redesign and commercial delivery of the world’s first solid-state MOS (metal oxide semiconductor) power transistor. The MOS power transistor is at the heart of the power supplies used in desktop PCs (personal computers), audio systems and many industrial applications. Mr. Kay also shared a patent for a new semiconductor process.
Currently, Mr. Kay spends his time as an investor, enterprise thinker and philanthropist. He is the President of LBS Investments, Executive Director of Kay’s Institute of Thinking, and Chairman of Kay Family Foundation. Mr. Kay is also the founder of the Kay Center for E-Health Research operated by the School of Information Systems and Technology, Claremont Graduate University in Southern California, USA as well as Founder of Kinnovation Alliance.
For his works, Mr. Kay was awarded “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst and Young in 2003 and “Faithfulness and Excellence” by Concordia University in 2006. He sits on the Boards of various non-profit organizations. Academically, Mr. Kay obtained his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from Stanford University and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University.
Mr. Kay is married to Helen Kay and they make their home in Southern California’s Newport Beach. Together they have three adult children.
